About The Starlight Children’s Foundation:

The Starlight Children’s Foundation Midwest Gala was a huge success once again this year – raising nearly $320,000. This year’s black-tie event was held on Saturday, June 7th at the Macy’s magnificent State Street location.

The theme of this year’s event centered around Starlight’s innovative Fun Centers that come equipped with the new Nintendo Wii gaming system.

The first portion of the evening began with guests enjoying cocktails and hors’ devours, a silent auction and the Wii Workshop. The Wii Workshop was filled with four large trees decorated with mini-wheel barrels yellow hardhats, cracker jacks, inflatable hammers and other items signifying fun and innovation.

Joining in the fun and lending a much needed helping hand was LaShawn Cobb.

LaShawn came to us through an announcement we placed for volunteers at WomenOnCall.org. She worked hard with other volunteers, creatively tagging all of the items in the Wii Workshop to make sure that everyone wanted to “take a shot” at winning. Together with other volunteers, LaShawn demonstrated how and why we have been so successful at Starlight Midwest. Our volunteers are what make us work. We know that we could not do what we do without the generous time commitment of people like LaShawn Cobb and the help of wonderful resources like WomenOnCall.org.

After the workshop and a delicious dinner, guests crowded the dance floor, kicked - back and celebrated the success of the evening. We are very thankful for the many gracious attendees who made the evening such a magnificent experience.

Starlight Children’s Foundation Midwest would like to take this opportunity to say to LaShawn Cobb, WomenOnCall.org and all the other wonderful volunteers and guests who took part in the festivities, thank you for joining us to brighten the lives of the seriously ill children and families we serve. We couldn’t do it with out you!.

Starlight Children’s Foundation Midwest is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that serves the four-state territory of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. Since 1986, we have helped seriously ill children and their families cope with their pain, fear and isolation through entertainment, education and family activities.

Starlight Midwest serves children and teens suffering from any serious illness or injury. Our services include family events that allow sick children and their families to relax, have fun, and reconnect outside the hospital environment; entertainment programs that boost spirits, reduce the need for pain medication, and provide distraction therapy; technology-based programs that connect isolated, sick youth with their peers and enable them to keep up with their schoolwork; and educational programs that help sick children understand medical procedures, manage their illness and develop coping strategies.
